I guess the impression of Bavaria many people have is of  fairytale castles, beer, skiing and guys in weird leather pants dancing with women in quaint dresses.  On the ground of course nobody, except when dealing directly with tourists, wears Lederhosen.  Munich is the electronics and IT hub of Germany, and out in the country-side are the factories for BMW (the Bavarian Motor Works), Audi and a slew of other international names.

Also Bavaria is the southern most state of Germany, even if it is a long way north of New Jersey.  So it should be no surprise that Bavaria leads Germany in energy conservation and alternative energy installations.
